Yearly Journals

My very first diary was given to me on my first day of high school and school diaries back then were essential planners before ‘planning’ was a thing. We wrote our classes extra-curricular activities in there, but we also decorated and highlighted. We glued in pictures of celebrities and drew our favourite band logos. It was the start of a habit that would stick with me forever - using a weekly diary to keep my life in one neat little spot.

It was just instinctual to buy my own diary the first year out of high school. I had to keep track of all my uni classes, public transport times and assignment due dates. I carried it with me everywhere and started to record everything in my diaries - not just the important stuff. I used them to record special moments and travel adventures. I back-tracked through past weeks to make sure I included everything that had happened. Basically, daily journaling without the effort of journaling.

Now I look back at ten years of journals and I can see everything I’ve done. I have Nick and my first dates recorded, and little moments like our first kiss. I can reminisce on high school functions, and how often I’d go and stay at my friend’s house.

My diary tradition is here to stay, and so excited to see what the next lot of 10 diaries brings!

Who said paper is dead? *shun the non-believer*
