About Kelly

Kelly Maddocks is a creative from Queensland, Australia.

She aims to bring joy, energy and movement to any space with the intention of encouraging optimistic reflection. She uses colour and texture to create light and movement within her paintings, and bold graphics to create statement pieces.

Kelly is heavily influenced by mid-century design and the golden era of abstract expressionism, while often referencing pop art, Googie architecture and pop culture.

Having always been an artist at heart, Kelly rediscovered her love for painting shortly after becoming a mum and has started to document her journey on social media.

CHILD’S PLAY

After many afternoons painting with her two toddlers, Kelly set up an Instagram account to document the fun and chaos of painting afternoons at home. Inspired by the lack of appreciation for abstract art that is often expressed through the comment “A kid could paint that!”, the account celebrates the expression that children create through their own artwork without the fear of judgement from amateur or professional critiques.

THE STUDIO

A little corner of paradise, the studio is where all the magic happens. Positioned to overlook the family backyard, it is the hub of creativity and play. Kelly is often joined in the studio by her two toddlers who love to paint and create.
